Amelia Philpott
Amelia practices in labour, employment, human rights, and administrative law.
She holds a Bachelor of Common and Civil Laws from McGill University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa. Amelia received several awards during her studies, including the Lindsay Anne Cameron Award from the McGill Centre of Human Rights and Legal Pluralism, and a Plaque of Honour for highest academic standing in her program at the University of Ottawa.
Amelia has engaged in a wide range of public interest work. During law school she served clients at two legal clinics, clerked at the Municipal Court of Montreal, and sat on the board of the Quebec Public Interest Research Group. Amelia also volunteered with the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, providing research support for various immigration law reform projects, and for submissions to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Amelia articled at a leading labour law firm in Toronto, where she worked on matters before arbitrators, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, professional regulatory bodies, and various levels of court. After being called to the Ontario Bar in 2020, Amelia was in-house counsel to a union, and practiced labour law and civil litigation at a boutique firm in Toronto before joining Chivers Carpenter as an associate in 2022.
Amelia speaks English, German, French, and Portuguese. She enjoys playing music with friends, camping, and has been known to knit the odd hat or two.
