Camila Franco

Camila graduated with a dual law degree from McGill University, with a major in Human Rights and International Development.

At McGill, Camila was immersed in various community empowerment initiatives through her leadership at Radlaw, the Women of Colour Collective and the L.E.X. (law, education, connection) high school outreach program. She conducted research in English and French on issues ranging from racial profiling to tenant rights as an intern for Montreal’s Centre for Research Action on Race Relations and as a senior case-worker at McGill’s Legal Information Clinic. As part of her studies in international human rights law, Camila worked at the Instituto de Democracia y Derechos Humanos PUCP in Peru, and with the Wallenberg Advocacy Group, where she co-authored a White Paper advocating for the case of a political prisoner abroad. Camila also completed an internship at the University of Toronto Citizen Lab, where conducted research and co-authored reports on issues of digital surveillance, privacy, and human rights. During her final year of law school, Camila was elected to be a tutorial leader for first year law students.

Camila received various awards during law school for her research in human rights and disabilities law, and she graduated as McGill’s recipient of the Royal Society of Canada’s Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella Prize, which is awarded to one graduating law student from each Canadian law school who is most likely to positively influence equity and social justice upon graduation.

After graduation, Camila completed a clerkship at the Court of Appeal of Alberta under Chief Justice Khullar. Camila joined Chivers Carpenter in 2024. She practices in labour, employment, administrative, human rights and constitutional law. Camila has appeared before the Alberta Labour Relations Tribunal, Alberta King’s Bench, the Ontario Superior Court, as well as the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Camila currently volunteers on the Women’s Legal Forum (Alberta Civil Lawyer’s Trial Association) and sits on the executive committee of LEAF Edmonton as the Advocacy Lead.
